For 150 years, Continental has been “leading the way in mobility.” Their latest concept was recently unveiled at IAA Mobility Munich – Ambienc3.
Ambienc3 previews what can be expected from the on-board equipment of vehicles in the future with driving, working, and relaxing defining the automotive interiors of the future. Sustainability, design, functionality, third space and customer orientation are also a big focus of the concept, too which showcases Continental’s vision for the future of car interiors.
The interior comprises stylish, light and robust surfaces for the floor, walls, and ceilings, as well as the seats, lounge and tables. Natural, subtle and bright colours abound, Ambienc3 also features warm, clearly defined lighting effects and unobtrusive sounds.
Brimming with new surface solutions made from innovative and sustainable materials, Ambienc3 also promotes the trend of upcycling being based on a Volkswagen T2 Kombi.
Ralf Imbery, Global Director Innovation, Transformation & Design at Continental said, “With the Ambienc3 we are connecting a globally renowned icon of the automotive world with new, intriguing surfaces and future-focused technologies, whose attributes assist driving, working and relaxing as effectively as possible and distinguish them through colour, design and material.”
Other innovative highlights of the Continental concept vehicle include a light and sound concept that creates different moods, and heatable materials. Made using functional printing methods, these can generate heat in seconds. Other surfaces in the AMBIENC3 are distinguished by special attributes such as optimized soiling characteristics, maximum abrasion resistance and even self-healing in the event of damage.
Continental feel that by the time fully automated driving has arrived, there’s a good chance that we will be using time spent in a car for activities other than driving the actual car… Alongside the “driving zone” the new concept vehicle, therefore, also offers working and relaxing areas. “Third space” refers to the concept which underpins the fusion of living and working areas in a vehicle.
Other technologies in the concept vehicle include a speaker-less audio system, Ac2ated Sound, a ProViu 360 camera system enhancing safety on the road, a photovoltaic charger on the vehicle roof for sustainable energy generation, Intelligent Glass Control, an eTravel.Companion and DAB radio with USB and Bluetooth connectivity.
