2020 European Car of the Year: overall winner finally announced!

Back in November 2019, we revealed the seven finalists in the running to grab the European Car of the Year award for 2020. And now the overall winner has been announced…

The new Peugeot 208 took the title, beating out the BMW 1 SeriesFord PumaPorsche TaycanRenault ClioTesla Model 3 and Toyota Corolla.

For the record, the French firm’s supermini finished on 281 points, with the Model 3 in second place on 242 points and the Taycan grabbing third with 222 points. Next was the Clio (211) and Puma (209), followed by the Corolla (152) and finally the 1 Series (133).

“I am particularly proud that the all-new Peugeot 208 has just won the 2020 Car of the Year prize. This trophy underlines the excellence of the work and great commitment of all the teams of the brand and the Groupe PSA,” said Peugeot CEO, Jean-Philippe Imparato.

Some 60 jury members voted to declare the overall winner of the European Car of the Year awards.

The Jaguar I-Pace won the award in 2019, while the Volvo XC40 triumphed the year before. In 2017, the Peugeot 3008 took top honours, while the Opel Astra won in 2016, the Volkswagen Passat in 2015, the Peugeot 308 in 2014 and the Volkswagen Golf in 2013.
