After months of decline, the light commercial vehicle market gained traction by 13.1% compared to last August, recording a gain of 1 536 units. Toyota continues to dominate the market, not just in total vehicles sold in August 2022 but by manufacturing one of the most popular bakkies in South Africa. The iconic Toyota Hilux has been a long-time favourite in South Africa, from the 6th generation which was introduced in 1997, a strong durable option that can traverse any terrain or road, we’ve seen the Toyota Hilux get better throughout the years, and the design and technology have evolved with it.
The 8th generation Hilux is mostly responsible for the great increase in the sales of light commercial vehicles with a whooping 3 417 units sold in August 2022 courtesy of Prospecton operations resuming. The Ford Ranger was the runner-up with 1 791 units sold and the Isuzu D-Max took 3rd place with 1 789 units sold.
