As South Africans, we don’t get much. Clothing brands, shopping outlets, sports events, sound governance and even electricity. Among the many things, we fall short of receiving are more often than not, cars. One, in particular, the recently unveiled and much sought-after BMW G81 M3 Touring.
Speculation has been going around recently suggesting that the BMW G81 M3 Touring is on its way to South Africa. However, these are just speculations and in fact, there has been no official confirmation provided by the folks over at BMW SA just yet. BMW SA has confirmed that they haven’t received any notification of any units of the wonderful Bavarian estate car designated for SA’s shores anytime soon.
Speaking exclusively to CAR Magazine, a member of the BMW Genius Team mentioned that in passing last year, an exec mentioned the possibility of the Touring coming to South Africa, however, there hasn’t been any word on the matter since. It is unfortunate that we still have no clue whether or not a few units will be allocated to South Africa because as far as special M cars go, the Touring car is a collectors (or even average petrolhead/fanboy) must have.
Fret not because although we might not see the G81 M3 Touring on our roads soon, there has been confirmation that around 15 to 20 BMW M4 CSLs are scheduled for a trip down to South Africa soon. For those unaware, the CSL badging on the G82 M4 signifies its unbridled Bavarian performance enhancements and a slightly higher price tag that roughly translates to around R2,3 million (give or take).
It’s a bit disheartening knowing that we may never see the 380 kW turbocharged 3,0-litre in-line six-totting wagon pacing around SA’s roads and highways. Keep an eye out though, because we’ve already seen the new CSL and touring, the next big M is going to be the second generation M2.
