“The financial year 2023 was characterized both by our highly successful portfolio of highly emotional combustion engine vehicles and by our ongoing electrification offensive with two further all-electric performance models and our first electrified high-performance car, the BMW XM. Not least the ongoing success of the BMW i4 M50 confirms that we are on the right track to further advance the electrification of our product portfolio and to combine sustainable drive technologies with an emotionally powerful driving experience.” – Franciscus van Meel, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW M GmbH
The Bavarian automaker’s performance sub-brand reported that its all-electric i4 M50 was the best-selling model last year. The M Division’s electric range grew in 2023 with the introduction of the i5 M60 xDrive sedan and the i7 M70 xDrive. According to BMW M’s Chariamn, Franciscus van Meel, the success of the electric sedan has reaffirmed the sub-brand’s intent of emboldening its product portfolio to include a variety of vehicles that leverage sustainable driving technologies to retain and reinforce its signature driving experience.

As for BMW M’s ICE offerings, the firm has reported that its three high-performance vehicles, such as the latest M2, have contributed significantly to the increase in sales. Most notably, BMW’s G80 M3 sedan has been highlighted as the brand’s best-selling high-performing model that, among other high-performance models, contributes to the “unabated growth” of the performance-oriented offshoot of the BMW Group. Off the heels of a positive year, BMW M intends to further its success by introducing the highly-anticipated BMW M5, which will also be offered in a lust-worthy Touring configuration.
BMW says its M5 model is in “the starting blocks for the current model year”. Additionally, the hallowed “CS” suffix will return for the G82 M4, expected to debut sometime this year with more power and less weight.
