The new-generation BMW M3 and M4 Competition models hit South African shores earlier this year, sporting a bold new look and a potent 375 kW turbopetrol engine, but as far as M Division performance models go, these are just the beginning.
According to BimmerPost, which claims to have compiled information from various leaks from within the German carmaker, BMW is planning to launch a new-generation M4 CSL next year. Set to be produced in a presumably limited run from July 2022 to February 2023, the new M4 CSL will offer around 403 kW, BimmerPost reports. The publication also states that it will be produced in rear-wheel drive guise only (unlike the M4 Competition which offers xDrive as an option) and the modified engine will be paired with the familiar eight-speed automatic gearbox. Sorry, purists, no manual is mentioned here!
The BimmerPost report also mentions a choice of 19” or 20” wheels, with track tyres being offered as an option, as will racing bucket seats and new M headlights. Clients can also look forward to “lots of carbon fibre bits”, according to the publication.
The new BMW M4 CSL has already been spotted in prototype form, testing on the Nurburgring. But we’ll have to wait until next year to officially find out all the juicy details.
Interestingly, the BimmerPost article also mentions a new M3 CS model, which is set to be produced from mid-2023 until early 2024, also featuring its fair share of carbon bits. No power figures for the CS have been disclosed as yet.
