BMW set to supply Jaguar Land Rover with engines – report

A new report out of Europe claims BMW will supply four- and six-cylinder engines to Jaguar Land Rover as the two automotive groups expand their recently announced alliance.

In June 2019, the two firms confirmed they were “joining forces to develop next generation electric drive units”. But this latest report from Autocar suggests the German company will also supply its British partner with petrol, diesel and hybrid powertrains.

Citing a source “with knowledge of recent high-level discussions”, Autocar said the engines expected to be supplied to Jaguar Land Rover would include four- and six-cylinder units “both with and without electrically assisted hybrid functions”.

According to the report, this move would allow the British group to redirect a large chunk of its engine research and development budget to the electric units it plans to build in partnership with BMW.
