Last month, BMW took the wraps off its seventh-generation 5 Series, which is scheduled to go on sale in February 2017. But now the Munich-based automaker has revealed details of an array of M Performance parts that will become available for the big sedan soon after its launch.
BMW says these “retrofit components” have been developed especially for the new 5 Series.
An M Performance “Power and Sound Kit” will be available for the 540i derivative, increasing the output of the six-cylinder in-line mill by 25 kW to 265 kW and the maximum torque by 50 N.m to 500 N.m. This added oomph is complemented by a bespoke silencer system that BMW promises will deliver a “striking, sporty sound”.
Diesel models, meanwhile, will be available with the brand’s somewhat controversial “Active Sound” exhaust system. The 530d will also be offered with a “Power Kit” that hikes the six-cylinder turbo-diesel’s power by 20 kW to 215 kW and maximum torque by 30 N.m to 650 N.m.
Other interesting options include a sports braking system, 20-inch BMW M Performance light alloy wheels (with 245/35 R20 rubber up front and 275/30 R20 at the rear), various aerodynamic components (including a rear diffuser, carbon-fibre-finished or polyurethane rear spoiler and various body additions), side-mirror caps (in carbon-fibre), a black M Performance kidney grille, black bars for the brake air channels, M Performance side-sill decals, and an Alcantara-trimmed sports steering wheel.
So, if you can’t quite wait for the upcoming M5, BMW hopes that these M Performance parts will tide you over…
