By now, we all know that Maybach make special versions of Mercedes-Benzes, but what do you call a special version of a special version? The Brabus 800, based on the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600. Brabus say, “It is your home away from home; an elegant place to work, unwind and experience life on the road like never before.” We’ll take their word on that…
Fore and aft, the Brabus 800 front fascia and rear diffuser feature, giving the behemoth GLS a slightly more athletic appearance. Handling at high speeds is improved thanks to special calibration of the adaptive air suspension.
24-inch BRABUS Monoblock M “PLATINUM EDITION” forged wheels sit at each corner and fill the space with aplomb thanks to the Brabus suspension module which lowers the luxury SUV by 25 millimetres.
Powered by Mercedes-AMG’s familiar 4,0-litre twin-turbocharged V8, the Brabus 800 propels itself to 100 km/h in just 4,5 seconds on a wave of 950 N.m of torque. As the ‘800’ moniker suggests, the Brabus 800 has 588 kW/800 hp. The top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h.
Brabus Dual Cube quilting has been applied through pinpoint precision around the cabin, including the seats, trim elements and the foot wells, which are upholstered in the finest leather, too.
As with the Mercedes-Maybach GLS, the rear is quite the place to be with seats that’ll do just about anything you ask them to. A range of exposed-carbon elements on the dashboard and the door panels, as well as aluminium pedals and door lock pins, stainless-steel scuff plates complete with backlit BRABUS logo, which change colour in sync with the ambient lighting, complete the interior of this remarkably shouty statement
Just in case the pumpkin orange interior didn’t give it away, Brabus note that interior specification/colours are “Limited only by your imagination.” Oh boy…
