BYD has unveiled its Super e-Platform, a brand-new electric setup designed to bridge the timing gap between electric-vehicle (EV) charging and traditional refuelling. Featuring megawatt flash charging, the Super e-Platform aims to eliminate range anxiety by delivering optimised EV charging speeds.

Central to BYD’s Super e-Platform is the ability to achieve 1 MW (1000 kW) of charging, which translates to a peak charging speed of 2 km per second. As a result, a five-minute charge can add up to 400 km of range. “In order to completely solve our users’ charging anxiety, we have been pursuing a goal to make the charging time of EVs as short as the refuelling time of petrol vehicles,” said BYD founder Wang Chuanfu. “This is the first time in the industry that the unit of megawatt (charge) has been achieved on charging power.”
The Super e-Platform integrates several components. Notably, BYD has introduced the world’s first mass-produced 30 000 r/min motor. This high-speed motor not only boosts vehicle performance, with a single motor capable of delivering 580 kW, but also significantly reduces the motor’s weight and size. “The 30 000 r/min motor not only significantly boosts the vehicle’s speed but also greatly reduces the motor’s weight and size, enhancing power density,” said Luo Hongbin, BYD’s Senior Vice President.

To support the ultra-high power charging, BYD has developed and mass-produced next-generation silicon carbide (SiC) power chips. These chips, with a voltage rating of up to 1 500 V, represent the industry’s first mass-produced automotive-grade SiC power chips with such a high voltage rating.
Recognising the need for a comprehensive charging infrastructure, BYD has also introduced the Megawatt Flash Charging terminal system. This all-liquid-cooled system boasts a maximum output capacity of 1 360 kW.
