With hopes of A Formula 1 Grand Prix in SA dashed, the motorsport fires are stoked once more as tickets for the 2023 Cape Town E-Prix are now on sale.
The Formula E horse has been nearly beaten to death. A seemingly never-ending torrent of whispers and rumours for months, but finally the light at the end of the tunnel is starting to get a bit brighter. The Mother City will see its first-ever all-electric full-tilt racing event in February next year. More specifically, the 25th of February, only 106 days to go.
Tickets start from R1 595 and escalate to R3 450. What comes with the costlier tickets is yet to be announced but expect a better view of these high-voltage road runners.
“We are excited to announce Cape Town as a new destination for our series in Season 9. Our local partners are working incredibly hard to bring an ABB FIA Formula E World Championship race to the city and we cannot wait to see the futuristic Gen-3 race cars competing against the iconic natural backdrop of Table Mountain.” — Alberto Longo, Co-Founder and Chief Championship Officer, Formula E
The Cape Town E-Prix is the fifth round of the FIA’s 9th Formula E world championship season. The opening of this historic racing championship will take place in Mexico City. This season we see the introduction of Formula E’s Gen-3 cars, which will find themselves in their element on Cape Town’s roughly 2,8 km, 12-turn E-Prix track revolving around the Cape Town Stadium in Green Point.
These lightweight, electric track weapons are faster, lighter, and more powerful. With Cape Town’s winding and undoubtedly speed-friendly roads, these electrified racers are sure to put on a show. For those seeking a little more Formula E excitement, look out for the Allianz Fan Village. This mini-festival of Formula E goodness will be open to the public on race day.
Not to cause any alarm or concern, but best to grab those tickets now while they’re still available. See you there!
