You may remember a story from a couple of months back about a Toyota Tundra that had covered more than one million miles (or 1 600 000 km, in our language).
The walkaround video below, though, provides us with a closer look at the 2007 bakkie – and you may be surprised by just how decent a condition it is in.
According to Mike Sweers, the brand’s chief engineer for the Tundra and Tacoma, the 4,7-litre V8 under the bonnet is the original engine. Sweers says the oil was changed 117 times over the vehicle’s almost-decade existence. That’s plenty of visits to the dealer.
The alternator and water pump were both replaced, and the vehicle also had its timing chain changed twice. The only other real issue, according to Sweers, was the failure of the reverse gear, which led to the original transmission being repaired (rather than replaced).
Sweers convinced the Japanese automaker to buy the vehicle back from the owner to allow him to have a closer look at the condition of the body (particularly the spot welds, considering that the Tundra was used as a workhorse). He plans to have the vehicle stripped down for closer inspection.
Watch the video below (from the folks over at The Fast Lane Truck) for a more detailed look at the Tundra (including its surprisingly neat interior)…
