The 26-year-old Chinese state-owned company had a brief foray in South Africa a little more than a decade ago. This time around, they have commitments to continue growing and offer a wide variety of vehicles under their several umbrella brands. In 2024, the automaker hopes to introduce 7 new models to the South African market, including offerings from their subsidiaries Jaecoo and Omoda.

Most notable will be the arrival of Chery’s other overseas brand; Jaecoo. As a curtain raiser, South Africa will receive the J7 which will share the limelight with the C9 in Q1 of 2024. We have driven the new J7, so stay tuned for driving impressions.
Following that will be the arrival of the Omoda E5, which is an all-electric version of the C5 and will signal the firm’s first foray into electrification. Instead of an ICE, the E5 uses a 61 kWh LFP battery which is paired with a 150 kW electric motor powering the front wheels.

Thereafter, the familiar Tiggo 7 Pro and Tiggo 8 Pro will arrive as plug-in hybrid derivatives in Q4 while Jaecoo’s J8 which shares the same T1X unibody chassis platform as the Tiggo 9.
