The handbuilt Dutch Donkervoort D8 GTO Individual Series is now on offer in the US with prices starting at $240 000 or just over R4 million. The model comes with 294 kW from an Audi sourced 5-cylinder and impressive track performance to match.
While it may be an unfamiliar brand to most of the American market, what powers it isn’t. Under the long bonnet of the Donkervoort D8 GTO Individual Series is an Audi sourced 2,5-litre five-pot-turbo which is good for 294 kW and can propel the handbuilt model to 100 km/h in only 2,7 seconds.
Unlike the Audi models in which this motor finds itself, there is no level of luxury with the D8 GTO Individual Series. This is an all out track car that can be driven on the road with the true enthusiasts option offering a 5-speed manual or an optional six-speed sequential gearbox although no mention of transmission choices for the US have been made yet.
The reason to introduce the D8 GTO Individual Series into the US was due to the high demand with Denis Donkervoort, Managing Director stating: “Inquiries from the US rank second behind only Europe, despite our supercars never being sold there, so we know enthusiasts in the United States are aware of what Donkervoort delivers.” This is despite a two-year waiting list in the continent of its origin with Donkervoort further adding it has free production capacity to meet the new demand.
The D8 GTO Individual Series and all of its subsequent models will be sold and serviced in the new continent by Bespoke Imports Group who have paired up with the Dutch automaker. The highly customisable car can be specified for road or track use which includes certain optional features. No correspondence for the model to come to South Africa has been indicated yet so we will just have to enjoy the sports car from afar for now.
