Bentley Motors has confirmed production of the Mulsanne will end in the second quarter of 2020.
The Crewe-based firm made the announcement when revealing a “final edition” version of the flagship limousine.
The "Mulsanne 6,75 Edition by Mulliner" will be restricted to just 30 examples worldwide. Once all 30 units have been completed, production of the nameplate will cease, leaving the latest Flying Spur as Bentley’s flagship model.
“The Mulsanne has played a pivotal role in maintaining Bentley’s position as global leader of the luxury limousine segment. The flagship of our model range, its longevity is a testament to our ongoing commitment to hand-building the finest motor cars in the world. The new Mulsanne 6,75 Edition is the culmination of that achievement,” said Chris Craft, member of the board responsible for sales, marketing and aftersales.
“While production of the Mulsanne will end in Spring 2020, this decision has been taken at a time when we are experiencing significant customer demand across our other existing model lines. As such, we will be redeploying all of our manufacturing colleagues who currently work on the Mulsanne to other areas of the business,” he added.
The Mulsanne 6,75 Edition by Mulliner is based on the existing Mulsanne Speed, with its twin-turbo V8 generating 395 kW and a whopping 1 100 N.m.
The special model features ventilation controls capped by miniature versions of the engine oil cap, a “6,75 Edition” motif stitched into the seats and the same logo projected onto the ground by the LED welcome lamps. The faces of the clock and minor gauges, meanwhile, gain schematic cutaway drawings of the famous engine itself.
In terms of exterior styling, the special model boasts plenty of gloss black trim and 21-inch five-spoke Mulsanne Speed wheels featuring a bright-machined finish with gloss black pockets. Under the bonnet, the engine intake manifold is finished in black and the engine number plaque is signed by Bentley’s chairman and chief executive, Adrian Hallmark.
In South Africa, the range currently comprises three variants: the Mulsanne (from R6 152 000), the Mulsanne Speed (from R6 739 000) and the Mulsanne extended wheelbase (from R7 384 000).
