Although we won’t see the new Mercedes C-Class until next year, details are slowly starting to surface about the new W205 model.
Younger audience
According to a Stuttgart-based Mercedes-Benz spokesperson, the marque is doing everything possible in terms of the car’s visual appeal and the level of technology offered. The aim is to offer a more attractive car for a younger audience.
Four C-Class variants are planned. This will obviously include the standard saloon and estate, while we can also expect to see a new coupé and a fabric-roof cabriolet.
Performance enthusiasts will be happy to know that AMG is working on a new 4,0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine that should do duty in all four models. Expect this new unit to deliver at least the same amount of power as the current C63 AMG’s 336 kW, while torque is likely to increase to more than 600 N.m.
More space
The standard C-Class’s length will increase by 100 mm, of which most will be added between the axles. The tracks have also been widened while the width of the car has also increased. The result should be a roomier interior and more boot space.
The C-Class will be first model based on Mercedes-Benz’s new MRA platform. This platform will also form the basis of future E- and S-Class models.
Expect the new C-Class to make its debut at next year’s Geneva or Paris Motor Show with local introduction later in 2014.
