What we’re seeing is the all-electric spiritual successor to the four-door AMG GT undergoing its first winter testing in Sweden. Mercedes has stated that the concept model utilises the AMG.EA (AMG Electric Architecture) platform will be unveiled sometime in 2025, with a production-ready model scheduled to debut in 2026. Mercedes has stated that the AMG EV will pioneer several technological innovations, but as it stands, the platform and model it will be founded on are at the beginning of a “demanding and comprehensive test plan, which will span multiple proving grounds, continents and climate zones”.
The athletic AMG EV will be founded on Mercedes’ AMG.EA platform that will feature key powertrain elements such as axial-flux motors lauded by the Stuttgart-based marque for having a praiseworthy mix of power density, size, and weight. Furthermore, Mercedes will employ a high-voltage battery in the electric AMG GT successor. As a reminder, the AMG GT63 SE Performance is a plug-in-hybrid muscle-bound foor-door Coupé sourcing its tarmac-twisting ability from a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 working in tandem with the 6.1 kWh battery to output 620 kW/ 1 400 N.m. Seemingly different to its 2 348 kg body, the AMG GT 63 SE Performance is capable of reaching 100 km/h from a standstill in 2.91 seconds.

The current test mule’s figure slightly resembles that of the 2022 Mercedes Vision AMG concept, which was a concept model that envisioned AMG’s future performance-oriented electric vehicle. The recent test mule wears Miata NA-style taillights, features a slopped and receding body line, and is curtailed by a rear spoiler. It’s more than likely that it will shed most of the design elements spotted on the test mule when the actual AMG EV goes into production.
