At the core of the hybrid Ranger is a turbocharged 2,3-litre EcoBoost petrol engine affixed to an electric motor and rechargeable battery system. Ford hasn’t revealed any power figures for this bespoke powerplant configuration, however, they do provide power figures for the 2,3-litre petrol engine, which is said to produce roughly 231 kW and 474 N.m (if our conversions are correct). Relying solely on electric power, the Plug-in hybrid Ranger is capable of more than 45km of driving range.

“The Ranger Plug-in Hybrid is a best-of-both-worlds solution for work, play, and family – offering customers zero-tailpipe emissions EV driving for short trips, or hybrid performance that delivers incredible on- and off-road performance,” – Andrew Birkic, President and CEO, Ford Australia and New Zealand
A first for the Ranger nameplate is Ford’s Pro Power Onboard system, which is also found in the load beds and cabins of Ford’s F-Series bakkies. This system is a network of plugs of varying power outputs from a 2.0 kWh system to a 7.2 kWh system.
“The Ranger Plug-in Hybrid will help our customers move into an electrified future, with the confidence and capability that only Ranger can provide. Ranger Plug-in Hybrid will join the Ford Australia line-up as our fifth electrified vehicle alongside Mach-E, E-Transit, E-Transit Custom and Puma BEV”
At the time of the publication of this article, Ford South Africa has yet to issue any comment regarding the Plug-in hybrid Ranger model for the local market. We will continue to provide updates regarding this topic as information is made available.
