It’s more than a little ironic that in its first official teaser campaign for the upcoming Ford Maverick, the company refers to its new compact bakkie as “the truck that you didn’t see coming”. As if the web hasn’t been absolutely flooded with spy pictures and speculative stories in the last year – of which we are also highly guilty.
But now Ford has finally given us a date for its highly anticipated reveal, which is set to take place next week Tuesday, June 8. The debut will be broadcast on Ford’s TikTok channel and will feature actress Gabrielle Union, who also appears in the teaser pics and video.

Ford didn’t release any information about the Maverick, but we do know that it will be built around a monocoque architecture shared with the latest Focus and Kuga models.
The Ford Maverick will, of course, slot beneath the Ranger and according to Ford Authority, it could be up to 30 percent cheaper than its bigger brother on the US market. At this stage, however, it’s not known whether the Ford Maverick is destined for South Africa, but given the rumours that it’s going to be a left-hand drive only offering we wouldn’t hold our breath at the prospect of it coming.

The aforementioned website has also speculated that the Ford Maverick will be offered with two engine options, these being a 1,5-litre three-cylinder turbopetrol with 134 kW and a 2-litre unit that pushes 186 kW.
We will, of course, have to wait until next Tuesday to find out all the details.
