The Blue Oval reigns supreme in the performance bakkie segment in our local market, no other brand has adapted one of their models into a purpose built 4×4 yet. The next generation Ford Ranger model looks set to dominate the segment without competition for now at least, here is a closer look with a Raptor walkthrough.
Fox coilover shocks, an upgraded ladder frame and a wide body kit to match all of the aggression play a small part in the performance bakkies previous success – a recipe that will continue with the newbie on the block. The outgoing model did however have an uninspiring 2-litre turbo-diesel powertrain that felt lacking at times.
In the latest Raptor walkthrough video by Dimitris Spilios on YouTube, the newcomer which is expected by July of this year, has been shown in great detail. This includes the engine bay which houses the V6 EcoBoost capable of 292 kW which should be enough to get the blood pumping. Don’t expect anything too glitzy though, underneath the muscular bonnet sits the powertrain which is festooned with plastic piping and ducts concealing the low sitting motor.
