Ford has introduced two new limited-edition Ranger derivatives – the Stormtrak and Wolftrak – to its double-cab bakkie line-up in Europe.
“Customers love the bold style and tough capability of our Ranger pick-up, so we’ve developed the new Stormtrak and Wolftrak limited-edition models to offer even more of both,” said Hans Schep, Ford of Europe’s general manager of commercial vehicles. Based on the Ranger Wildtrak, the Ranger Stormtrak is powered by Ford’s 2,0-litre twin-turbocharged four-pot which, mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission, produces 157 kW and 500 N.m of torque (the latter on tap from a lowly 1 500 r/min).
According to the Blue Oval brand’s European arm, the Stormtrak offers even higher levels of standard kit as the double-cab bakkie it is based on. Dressed in Ranger Stormtrak-specific Rapid Red paintwork (Frozen White and Blue Lightning paint options are also on offer), the Stormtrak is fitted with a bespoke red grille insert, bespoke bonnet, a black rear bumper and Stormtrak decals.
As standard, the Ranger Stormtrak is fitted with LED headlamp clusters, a sportsbar, a new electrically operated roller shutter, load divider and underbody protection.Inside, the Ranger Stormtrak features model-specific leather pews, replete with embroidered Stormtrak logos. Red contrast stitching can be found throughout the cabin.
And what about the Ranger Wolftrak? Based on the XLT-badged variant, the Wolftrak, Ford says, is an “intrepid, rugged pick-up designed around the needs of customers who work outdoors and desire commanding off-road performance without compromising comfort and desirability.” The Ranger Wolftrak features Ford’s 132 kW/420 N.m 2,0-litre single-turbo four-cylinder engine and is offered with the choice of either a 10-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission.
Standard fitment on the Ranger Wolftrak includes an electronically locking rear differential, a tubular sportsbar and protective bed liner. To enhance the Wolftrak’s off-road capabilities, all-terrain rubber – wrapped around 17-inch black alloy wheels – is fitted as standard, as is underbody protection. Seen here, the Ranger Wolftrak is finished in Conquer Grey body hue. Darkened Wolftrak badging completes the exterior package.
The Wolftrak’s cabin is set apart from its XLT-badged sibling with the addition of a matte black instrument panel, all-weather floor mats and Wolftrak badging. Both bakkies come equipped with Ford’s Sync3 infotainment system as standard.
Featuring a touch display, this system incorporates Apple CarPlay/Android Auto screen mirroring and Bluetooth functionality as standard.“Stormtrak combines striking looks with added luxury touches and features for active lifestyles, while Wolftrak’s rugged off-road performance helps it comfortably take owners far off the beaten track for work and fun,” said Schep.
