Ford’s Australian division has whipped the covers off the new special edition Ranger Raptor X. Although there are no performance mods to speak of, the numerous aesthetic enhancements are sure to make it turn even more heads in the parking lot.
It starts with what Ford refers to as OTT stripes – and yes, that does stand for ‘over the top’. These matt black ‘carbon twill texture’ graphics with red pinstripe borders are applied to the bonnet, roof, tailgate and the sides of the vehicle.
A matching matt black finish has been applied to the grille, door handles, rear bumper cover and fender vents, while the 17-inch alloy wheels now boast an ‘Asphalt Black Matt’ finish. Raptor X buyers can also look forward to an extended leg sports bar, inherited from the Ranger FX4, as well as red front tow hooks and a black Ford tailgate logo.
Inside Ford has decorated the Raptor’s cabin with red contrast stitching on the dashboard and steering wheel (replacing the regular Raptor’s blue stitching), while Black Alley and Hydrographic accents have been applied throughout.
As per the regular Ranger Raptors, power comes from Ford’s 2,0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine, which produces 157 kW and 500 N.m. It’s paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Of course, there’s also that sophisticated Fox suspension system, all-terrain tyres and a terrain management system that includes a Baja mode.
Ford South Africa has yet to confirm whether the new Ranger Raptor X edition, or something similar to it, is destined for local shores.
