Here’s what the new BMW M3’s M Performance exhaust sounds like…

By: CAR magazine

A fresh video clip giving us our first real listen to the new BMW M3’s optional M Performance exhaust system has been published online.

Created by the folks over at BMWBlog, the short video features start-up, idle and static revving clips.

The publication has furthermore included a sound comparison with the standard exhaust system employed by the G80-generation M3 sedan and G82-generation M4 coupé.

The optional titanium M Performance silencer system weighs around 5 kg less than the standard component. It culminates in four titanium, ceramic-coated tailpipe pieces, which are centrally mounted (rather than the standard two per side). BMW claims this lightweight system provides “an even sportier driving experience thanks to optimised exhaust gas routing”.

As a reminder, the twin-turbo 3,0-litre inline six-cylinder engine delivers 353 kW and 550 N.m in the standard M3 and M4 models (which aren’t destined for South Africa), with these peak outputs growing to 375 kW and 650 N.m in the Competition models (which are due to hit local roads soon).

Have a listen to the M Performance exhaust system in the video below…
