Hyundai has announced it will reveal a new “Project C” variant of its i30 N at the upcoming Frankfurt motor show in September 2019, with the limited-edition version of the hot hatch losing weight and riding closer to the ground.
Although Hyundai Automotive South Africa recently confirmed the i30 N was on its way to local shores, don’t expect to see this Project C model here, since just 600 units will be built (and all are destined for driveways and garages in Europe).
So, what sets this newcomer apart? Well, the i30 N Project C features a range of “design upgrades” and what the firm terms “exhilarating dynamic touches”.
The specification includes the use of carbon-fibre-reinforced-plastic materials and motorsport-inspired 19-inch alloy wheels, which Hyundai says makes the i30 N Project C “notably lighter” than the standard i30 N and “more responsive than ever to driver input”. Furthermore, this model will boast model-specific aerodynamic tweaks.
From what we understand, the Project C employs the same 2,0-litre turbocharged engine as the top-spec i30 N, sending 202 kW and 353 N.m to the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox.
The Korean firm says the new variant is inspired by the “Area C” track, which forms part of its high-performance facility at the Namyang R&D centre.
