“The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb represents a unique and exciting new challenge for our team because Hyundai already has a rich history of participating in the event going back 30 years.” – Bryan Herta, president and CEO, Bryan Herta Autosport.
Hyundai’s relationship and participation at Pikes Peak dates back to 1992, which was the first time the company competed. Rod Millen, piloting a Hyundai Scoupe, won the 2-Wheel Drive Showroom Stock Division. The Scoupe featured a new turbocharged 16-valve DOHC Alpha series engine. Rod Millen would return the following year with a 1993 Hyundai Elantra and would ultimately finish second in the event’s Open Division. Hyundai’s last outing to Pikes Peak was in 2018 with seasoned Pikes Peak combatant Jonathan Newcombe, entering into the Time Attack 1 (TA1) division with the heavily modified Hyundai Tiburon. The car would fail to start on race day, marking the start of Hyundai’s Pikes Peak hiatus.

“We have selected top experts like Robin Shute and Paul Dallenbach, who have won the event overall and in class 15 times. Both these drivers have an incredible track record and know the climb well. The addition of Hyundai Motorsports WRC driver Dani Sordo is very exciting and will help us engage a global audience for the hill climb.” – Till Wartenberg, Hyundai vice president and head of N Brand and Motorsport.
Serving as a test bed and demonstrator of technology for many OEMs, Hyundai will expectedly be leveraging the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
