Fresh renders of the upcoming Hyundai Santa Cruz double-cab bakkie have been published online, again inspired by a specific spy shot.
Nikita Chuyko created the images for Russian automotive website kolesa.ru, making sure to include details from a recent spy shot (published by the folks over at Motor1.com) that showed the new bakkie’s unfinished body in profile.
Indeed, the digital artist depicted the distinctive Y-shaped crease on the front door along with wheel arches each topped by small decorative cut-out. Chuyko paid close attention to the shape of the side glass, too.
What the latest spy shot didn’t show, however, was the production model’s face. Here, Chuyko opted for a facia based heavily on the latest Santa Fe, complete with a gaping grille and split headlamps.
While the rendered front end seems plausible enough, Chuyko’s take on the rear is a little more, well, extreme. Here, he’s opted for a cheeky roof spoiler as well as lights that span the width of the tailgate.
In April 2020, a report out of the United States suggested the new unibody Santa Cruz bakkie would be offered with a choice of four-cylinder petrol engines.
Late in 2019, meanwhile, the Korean firm announced the lifestyle pickup would go into production at its assembly plant in Alabama in 2021, some six years after the original concept was revealed. It’s not yet clear whether the Santa Cruz will also be produced in right-hand drive.
