The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is a significant step up from its non-N sibling, but the recently unveiled Ioniq 5 eN1 Cup car is an unbridled electric race car that would even humble its standard N counterpart.

The Ioniq 5 eN1 Cup car wears a model-specific body kit which is categorised by a gaping front end punctuated by two pronounced side air intakes, and a front splitter underscoring the familiar headlight array. Additional distinguishing visual elements include the flared wheel arches housing aggressive 18-inch multi-spoke wheels, a new rear diffuser, and a large fixed rear wing. Compared to the vanilla Ioniq 5 model, the eN1 Cup car sits 50 to 70 mm lower and is 200 to 250 kg lighter. Below the metal, the eN1 Cup car is equipped with a stiffer, adjustable suspension kit with spherical-joint pillowball mounts. The eN1 Cup car is supported by several hardware components, such as an improved braking system (six-piston callipers at the front and four-pistons at the rear), an FIA-grade six-point roll cage, and an air jack lift, to name a few.

Interestingly, the Ioniq 5 eN1 Cup car isn’t purposed as a show car but as an actual race car. Hyundai intends to have the electric racer completed and race-ready by May 2024. The eN1 Cup car will take part in Korea’s first-ever one-make EV competition, with each participating team piloting an example of the eN1 Cup car. Each car is outfitted with a specially tuned N Active Sound system, purposed to provide a louder sound. Additionally, the teams will be required to use the N e-Shift function in the final rounds of the event. Interestingly, the cars will utilise the N GRIN BOOST feature, which (in the standard Ioniq 5 N model) allows for a ten-second boost in maximum output and will be used in this competition when performing an overtake.
