The i30 Fastback N is the second hot hatch to come from Hyundai’s high-performance arm. Following the i30 N five-door hatchback, this fastback model is said to “enhance the brand’s appeal with highly emotional products”, according to Andreas-Christoph Hofmann vice-president of product marketing at Hyundai Motor Europe.
In terms of exterior design the i30 Fastback N shares much with its five-door sibling up front, with the rear design offering a unique shooting-brake-like design.
The i30 Fastback shape is merged with the many of the the i30 N five-door hatchback’s styling elements. As a result, the i30 Fastback N sports an N-specific grille and front bumper, as well as a unique rear bumper, both of which are highlighted by a red character line, with black side sills running down the flanks. Moreover, the rear features dual-exhaust exits and a rear spoiler that is integrated into the vehicle’s tailgate.
The interior is much the same as the hatch in terms of the specification and appearance. However, practicality is improved thanks to the all-new body shape with impressive claimed luggage capacities of 450 litres with the rear seat backs up, and 1 351 litres with them folded.
Two power outputs will be available for the 2,0-litre turbocharged engine. The Standard version produces a healthy 183 kW, while the Performance Package offers 202 kW. Both versions produce a maximum torque figure of 353 N.m and are capable of a 250 km/h limited top speed.
