After selling over 20 000 units since its launch in 2018, the Urus has undoubtedly become the most successful Lamborghini model of all time. The super SUV cash cow has taken the quintessential poster Italian automaker to new heights and will continue to do so in the future.
20 000 units isn’t a great deal when it comes to the automotive industry, brands like Toyota and Volkswagen achieve these numbers in a matter of months for some of their more successful models. Toyota for example, managed to sell over 15 000 units in our local market alone across their whole portfolio. While Lamborghini has become a mass producing automaker by definition after being taken under the guided wing of the Volkswagen Group, it still quite isn’t capable of achieving the same numbers as other automakers by virtue of their expensive and high performance offerings.
Therefore, on the 20th of July last year, less than 12 months ago, the Sant’Agata Bolognese factory celebrated a milestone for the Urus with 15 000 examples having successfully rolled off of the production line. That means in less than a year another 5000 have been sold, with an example finished in Viola Mithras bearing the significant #20 000 honour expected to make way to its owner in Azerbaijan as you read this.
SUVs are quintessential for any brands successes in the current automotive climate and the Urus has been the model that has been able to bolster Lamborghini’s workforce by hiring 500 new employees to ramp up the demand for the sought after model. It is therefore the most successful Lamborghini model of all time with Lamborghini stating that these models have driven a collective 360 million km – impressive stats for the super SUV which is good for 478 kW and 850 N.m from its 4,0-litre twin turbocharged V8.
If you think Lambo have gone soft with this SUV, the facelifted Urus could get an EVO derivative like that of the Huracan which could boast a bit more power, this of course before the range is expected to become all electric.
