The candidates for the 2021 World Car Awards have been announced, with 24 vehicles in the running for the overall prize.

Interestingly, the organisers say the 2021 list of eligible vehicles is “preliminary” and “may be updated” until 1 December 2020, when it becomes “final and no further changes can be made”. So, we can expect a few newcomers to be added over the coming months.

Of course, in April 2020, the Kia Telluride grabbed the World Car of the Year title. Now it’s time to start the process of finding 2021’s champion, along with winners in each of the four sub-categories.

First, a group of more than 90 international jurors will vote for their favourites late in January 2021. The overall top 10 (plus the top 5 in each category) will then be announced on 3 February 2021, with the lists further whittled down to three apiece on 2 March 2021.

The overall winners are scheduled to be revealed live at the New York International Auto Show on 31 March 2021.
