Mercedes-Benz says the 500 000th current W222-generation S-Class sedan has rolled off the production line at its Sindelfingen plant.
The current generation of the Stuttgart-based firm’s flagship saloon is built exclusively at the Sindelfingen factory, with production starting back in 2013.
Since the launch of the 220 model back in 1951, Mercedes says “around four million” S-Class sedan units have been delivered to customers worldwide. Interestingly, China is currently the largest market of all for the S-Class sedan, with more a third of all units sold there.
“In each of the 500 000 S-Class models there is a large portion of heart and soul from the entire Sindelfingen team. The many years of experience and the specialist knowledge of our employees have made a decisive contribution to this production success. As the Mercedes-Benz Sindelfingen plant, we are proud to be the centre of competence for our premium and luxury class,” said Michael Bauer, head of production at the factory.
The Sindelfingen plant produces the E-Class, the CLS, the S-Class (in saloon, coupé and cabriolet guise), the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, the Mercedes-AMG GT family and the GLA. EQ-badged electric vehicles are also set to join the line-up soon. The factory boasts a workforce of more than 25 000 employees, who facilitate the delivery of about 250 vehicles a day.
