A latest report to come from Italy has stated that the affordable Fiat Panda is confirmed for production until 2026 when brands like Stellantis will be more firmly entrenched in the transition to EVs.
The Panda nameplate has built up a sturdy reputation for the Italian brand in its 42 years of existence with the city car being an affordable and practical option for many markets. The endearing success of the affordable Fiat Panda will remain for at least another four years as Stellantis CEO, Carlos Tavares has confirmed.
He expressed concerns over increasing prices of new cars globally after saying he is “very concerned about the effect of affordability becoming much more of an issue as inflationary pressures escalate.” EVs aren’t quite at a point of being mass produced for affordability while retaining the same range and power characteristics of a conventional ICE powered vehicle.
While affordable compact electric vehicles are expected by the end of the decade, Tavares hopes that the fossil fuel powered Panda will fill the gap in the market until then. The model will continue to be assembled in the Southern Italian factory in Pomigliano d’Arco which is where the next generation Alfa Romeo Tonale SUV will also share a production line.
The weary Panda which has served for just over a decade already remains one of Fiat’s best sellers with mild updates and tech improvements keeping the compact city car relevant for the market. No significant future upgrades are earmarked for the affordable Fiat Panda but if it is still anticipated to be a viable option for buyers for another four years, we can expect it to receive a raft of upgrades to keep it fresh.
