Audi currently makes plenty of crossovers, from the new Q2 all the way through to the soon-to-arrive Q8. But the Ingolstadt brand’s boss reckons there are a few gaps still to be filled.
In a recent interview with Car Advice, Audi CEO Rupert Stadler revealed that more crossovers would be added to the automaker’s line-up soon, giving special mention to the Q4 and Q6.
“Believe me, we will fill the gaps. They have to be filled, I’m absolutely sure they have to be filled, because the customer desire in different global regions is somehow so different that you have to be in the marketplace with different derivatives, and we are strongly working on that,” Stadler told the Australian publication.
Stadler’s comments, of course, make sense considering how much growth the various SUV segments have experienced over the past few years, and how other German automaker have already taken advantage of this. Stadler also said that these new models would serve to attract new customers to the brand.
“We see that there is the business potential. We see that with new derivatives and products we can reload Audi,” he said.
Since the Q3 and Q5 already occupy places in mainstream segments, it seems likely that the Q4 and Q6 would be be positioned as more aggressively styled versions of these two crossovers, echoing the approach taken by BMW and Mercedes-Benz with their coupé-like SUVs.
So, what about the other “missing” model in Audi’s SUV range? Well, while Stadler wouldn’t rule out a future Q1 to sit below the Q2, he emphasised that the brand’s short-term focus was “in the direction of the Q4 and above it”.
