BMW and Jaguar Land Rover are reportedly close to finalising a deal that would see the German automaker supply the British brand with a new version of its twin-turbo V8.
According to Automobile Magazine, the new eight-cylinder engine will be used in high-end Jaguar and Land Rover products, which means it may end up replacing the brand’s ageing supercharged (and particularly thirsty) 5,0-litre V8.
BMW’s current N63 twin-turbo V8 is a 4,4-litre unit, but the report suggests Jaguar Land Rover will be supplied with an upgraded, downsized 4,0-litre version.
Automobile points out that the V8 is fast becoming a “specialty engine”, so deals such as this one will become increasingly common if the eight-cylinder powerplant is to survive.
