The Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is an intimidating muscle car, largely thanks to its supercharged 6,2-litre LT4 V8, which produces 485 kW and 881 N.m. A six-speed manual transmission is available, but the example we’re looking at here features a new 10-speed automatic transmission.
The Camaro ZL1 has been fitted with magnetic ride adaptive dampers, performance traction management, 20-inch alloys on Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3 tyres and six-piston front and four-piston rear massive Brembo brakes.
So why are we interested in this vehicle today? Well, the Camaro ZL1 was able to lap the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 7 minutes 29,6 seconds, which makes it faster than the Koenigsegg CCX, Mercedes-AMG GT S, Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera and most importantly, its main rival, the Ford Shelby GT350R.
The Camaro, of course, is not available in South Africa, but in the American market, Chevrolet can’t seem to sell enough of them. An average of 5 000 of these cars are sold every month (partly due to the fact that the Camaro has a starting price equivalent to around R360 000).
