Electrification, at this point, is inevitable but cars needn’t look any less exciting than the gasoline powered combustion chambers in which their bodywork envelops. This has been confirmed by senior Lamborghini design boss who claims their electrified cars will still Look Like Spaceships.
The emergence of electrified mobility is a tough pill to swallow for many enthusiasts who believe it will change the way cars look too. Lamborghini design boss Mitja Borkert has assured the naysayers in a previous interview that their outer worldly design direction isn’t going to change anytime soon after he was quoted saying future Lamborghinis will still “Look Like Spaceships.”
After being asked the question by Autocar at the Milan Monza motor show which took place over the weekend, the German automotive designer mentioned that “emotional performance” will embody future Lamborghini supercars, as they have traditionally done in the past. He further went on to state: “They will always look like spaceships, always be inspiring, always cars that with whatever technology they have will have the sound and the emotion to touch you.”
In addition to this, he mentioned that there are opportunities for designers to exploit when designing an electric vehicle; such as the lack of exhaust tips when Borkert stated “with the muffler, we can use that area for aero… in a very cool way.”
It won’t be too long until we get to see his vision, devoid of a traditional Lamborghini V10 or V12 soundtrack, employed into supercar reality since this year will see the last pure ICE-powered model from Sant’Agata Bolognese. Its lineup will be fully hybridised by 2024 and the first full Lamborghini EV is expected to arrive four years later and a second generation Urus using batteries and electric motors following that.
There are countless models in Lamborghini’s portfolio that look like spaceships but we think the one to beat them all is the ludicrous Egoista which is already almost a decade old.
