The trendy Toyota C-HR has arrived in SA, but what is it like in terms of safety? The recent Euro NCAP test shows that it’s quite notably solid which has resulted in it achieving a commendable five-star rating.
The C-HR’s rating saw a 95% adult occupancy rating, 77% child occupancy rating, 76% pedestrian collision rating and a 78% for safety features. These scores can be accredited to the crossover’s conclusive airbag system (in Europe) and other safety features which include active emergency braking, speed assistance and lane departure assistance.
Tested alongside the Audi Q5 and Land Rover Discovery, NCAP states that “[The] Toyota C-HR showed good all-round performance in all areas of assessment to earn [a] five-star rating.” Evidently it performed on par with the Audi and slightly better than the Land Rover.
This rating applies to the C-HR in both left- and right-hand drive models. For the time being, however, the models offered in South Africa each feature just two airbags (you can find out why in our driving impression here). View the full Euro NCAP report here.
