Ex-VW group exec Luca de Meo appointed new CEO of Renault

Filling the shoes of previous Renault CEO Carlos Ghosn, who was dismissed after his brush with the law regarding financial irregularities at the company, will be former Volkswagen executive, Luca de Meo. Effective from the 1st of July 2020, De Luca will be joined by Clotilde Delbos as Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the French arm.

At VW, de Meo stood as the Marketing Director for the group. He then moved on to become a member of the Board of Directors in charge of Sales and Marketing at Audi in 2012. From there he became chairman of Seat’s executive committee from 2015 until his latest appointment. He also held a seat on the Supervisory Boards of Ducati and Lamborghini and was the chairman of the Board of Directors of the Volkswagen Group in Italy.

In his new role, De Meo will have his work cut out, with Renault stating that 2020 will be a make-or-break year for the company. Its Alliance relationship with Nissan is under immense strain as the French automaker struggles to deliver on a number of promised cost-saving measures and joint-development projects.
