Less weight and more power is the ultimate recipe to take an existing car and make it more fun and capable. That is exactly the ideology that this Ferrari Testarossa restomod follows after it shed 130 kg while gaining an extra 80 kW. The best thing is, it is perfectly period correct on the surface.
That is right purists! You would need to go through this Ferrari Testarossa restomod with a fine tooth comb to be able to distinguish it from when it originally rolled off of the production line almost 4 decades ago. With work meticulously conducted by Swiss based Officine Fioravanti creating a clean looking reincarnation of one of the quintessential 80s supercars, we first saw initial teasers as long ago as last year. The exterior looks as it was back then but the firm has stated it has been put on a 130 kg diet while gaining an additional 80 kW from its flat-12.
The motor retains its 5,0-litre displacement but power is gained through overhauling the pistons and camshaft with electronic fuel injection replacing the obsolete mechanical derivative. These modifications also mean that the Ferrari Testarossa Restomod now has a whopping 9 000 rpm redline as opposed to its lowly original figure of 6 700 rpm. The total output now sits at 367 kW and Officine Fioravanti states it expects that the model can now reach 320 km/h as opposed to the 291 km/h of the original.
To cope with this healthy dose of power, the 80s suspension setup has also been tweaked which makes it handle like a modern supercar. All four corners sit on adjustable Ohlins shocks which have four settings to choose from and new anti-roll bars boast a total of six adjustments. The Ferrari Testarossa Restomod has improved stopping power too in the form of Brembo six-piston callipers in front and four-pistons at the back.
The interior comes with more electronics which can have the driver choose a handling setting depending on the conditions. This includes Wet, Normal, Sport, and Race modes for the anti-lock brakes and traction control to work their magic. The driver can also select the level of power transferred to the rear wheels with the flick of a switch.
The exterior as mentioned before still looks perfectly period correct although the pop-up headlights boast LED illumination and the original 16-inch rims have gone with a staggered setup that has 17-inch at the front and 18-inch at the rear.
The interior has been completely reupholstered in a light shade of brown with the seats and doors finished in perforated leather. The original plastic components have been turfed with billet aluminium replacing them. Did we say it looks fantastic in white yet? We are just a little bit terrified of how much this bespoke creation demands financially.
