A Chinese startup by the name of Techrules introduced two attractive supercar concepts at last year’s Geneva Motor Show: the AT96 and GT96 TREV.
At the time, the company said that the AT96 was simply a concept but that the GT96 would eventually make it to production. Since then, however, there has been very little news from Techrules.
But now famous Italian automobile designer Giorgetto Giugiaro and son Maurizio Giugiaro have announced that they will be contributing to the car’s design. Production specialist LM Gianetti is also said to be involved in the project.
The car is expected to receive a 25-unit production run every year starting in 2018. It will make use of the company’s newly developed Turbine-Recharging Electric Vehicle (TREV) system powering six electric motors. This innovation means that the GT96 will require a relatively small battery pack, thus making it lightweight and in theory more efficient (and fastest accelerating). This battery can also apparently be fully charged in just 40 minutes.
Techrules says it has been testing its GT96 at Silverstone, where the prototype has been able to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 2,5 seconds and reach a top speed of 350 km/h. Claimed peak outputs stand at 786 kW and a whopping 8 640 N.m of torque, while the vehicle weighs in at 1 380 kg dry.
Techrules has pledged that the money it believes it will make off the GT96 will go into developing affordable city cars in higher volumes.
