Great Wall Motor (GWM) unveiled its new global strategy and brand logo at the opening of the 21st Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition this month. With a sizable display, GWM’s goal was to showcase its two major themes; “Smart Tech Lifestyle” with Haval, Wey and Ora, and “Off-Road Powerhouse” with Tank, Poer and Souo Motorcycles. GWM president Mu Feng unveiled the new GWM brand logo, which signifies a shift “From the Great Wall to Global GWM” and is intent on aligning the firm with becoming a leading force in intelligent mobility. The new logo, dubbed the “Beacon”, is a visual cue for what the brand is calling “One GWM”: a unified identity that adapts to local markets but aims to be recognised worldwide.

Aside from all of the jargon, the Chinese automaker has promised to chase international safety benchmarks and five-star crash ratings more rigorously with a 500-million-yuan (R1 284 561 500) investment into what’s now the largest safety testing facility in Asia. In addition to becoming a larger global player (currently operating in over 170 countries), it plans on tailoring vehicles for regional tastes and used examples such as the aurora-themed lighting in the ORA Nordic Edition or the starry-sky roof on the Middle East-spec TANK 300.
