While Naamsa no longer releases individual model sales figures, Toyota South Africa Motors has revealed how many Hilux units were sold in February 2021.

The Japanese firm’s local arm says the Hilux again topped the sales charts, with 3 031 units registered during the shortest month of the year.

Overall, with 8 306 units sold across its line-up, Toyota grabbed a 22,1 percent share of the market. As many as 4 605 came in the form of light commercial vehicles (LCV), while passenger models accounted for 3 460 sales.

The Fortuner ended February 2021 on 706 units, while the RAV4 (419), Land Cruiser Prado (75) and Land Cruiser 200 (46) also contributed. The Corolla Quest (776), Starlet (667), Agya (285) and Avanza (232) likewise came to the sales party.

Lexus, meanwhile, ended the month on 36 units, while Hino sold a total of 100 new trucks in February.

“We are particularly proud of the role played by our dealers and our customers in making Toyota the leading brand in the LCV segment. A segment leadership of 41,4 percent is not to be sniffed at,” said Leon Theron, senior vice-president of sales and marketing at Toyota SA Motors.

“Our products in this segment range from Hilux and Land Cruiser bakkies supporting the agricultural sector to Hiace taxis anchoring the local transport system – as well lifestyle aficionados who love the comfort of the double cabs while appreciating their utilitarian qualities,” Theron added.
