Porsche has reported its best ever first half of a year in sales, with the 126 497 units delivered worldwide up to the end of June 2017 exceeding the previous record figure by seven percent.
And it’s the Macan that remains the main driver of this growth and the highest-volume model line globally. Indeed, the compact crossover recorded double-digit percentage growth in the first half of 2017, with deliveries up 11 percent to past the 50 000-mark.
Still, Porsche points out that the new Panamera achieved the strongest percentage increase in the first six months of the year, with sales of the new four-door sportscar rising by 54 percent.
According to Detlev von Platen, member of the executive board responsible for sales and marketing, the figures prove that the new Panamera has made quite an impact.
“The enthusiastic response from customers has been overwhelming. The plug-in hybrid versions and the new Sport Turismo version of the Panamera will provide us with even more momentum,” Von Platen said.
Demand for the 718 Cayman and Boxster models as well as the Cayenne also grew, with the latter proving the brand’s second most popular model line globally, with 35 601 vehicles delivered worldwide.
China has established itself as the largest single market for the brand, with a significant increase of 18 percent to 35 864 vehicles in the first six months of the year. The US market ranked behind the Chinese market during the reporting period with 27 568 deliveries, while Germany added 15 474 units.
And South Africa? Well, a little bit of maths based on Naamsa sales figures shows that Porsche sold some 645 units locally from the beginning of January to the end of June 2017, with the Cayenne (224) easily proving the most popular product. The Macan, meanwhile, accounted for 127 units locally in that time.
