Mitsubishi Motors South Africa has announced a recall for all Pajero models built between 2007 and 2016, saying it needs to inspect “potentially defective airbag inflators” supplied by Takata.
The action involves as many as 7 449 local Pajero models, with Mitsubishi saying it is in the process of contacting owners to arrange a free service inspection that will take about an hour to complete.
However, Mitsubishi says replacement parts first have to be ordered and delivered to the various dealers before owners will be asked to bring in their vehicles.
Interestingly, an unspecified number of local Triton units built between the same years are also seemingly involved in the action. In addition, Mitsubishi SA recalled 2 354 Lancer models late in 2015 for the same issue.
Over the past few years, Takata has been at the centre of a wide-reaching recall campaign.
If you own a Pajero, you can use Mitsubishi’s VIN checker to see if your vehicle is included in the recall.
