Aston Martin is not a manufacturer you’d associate with mid-engined supercars, but it appears that, coinciding with the development of the Valkyrie, there could be a whole new range on its way that aims to take the fight to Ferrari, Lamborghini and McLaren.
In an interview with Car and Driver, Aston Martin CEO, Andy Palmer, noted that the Valkyrie was not only intended to be a halo car, but also to lay the groundwork for future potential supercars.
While this new force of Aston Martin supercars is still in the design stage, Palmer said that the main mandate for this new venture is for the cars to combine Aston Martin’s form and function; to retain the classic Aston design without sacrificing speed.
That said, Palmer mentions this new development it is not exactly set in stone. The brand will have to reach its required sales targets in order to generate the funding for research and development, which means we’re only likely to see an example of this new wave after 2020 when the DBX Crossover hits the market.
Red Bull Racing will reportedly be involved in the development and the range could potentially be powered by the Valkyrie’s 6,5-litre V12 in order to create a strong rival for Ferrari’s V12 supercars.
Additionally, Palmer says these new models will not bite into the production of the DB11 and upcoming Vantage, both of which will be available alongside these new concepts.
