While it’s not clear whether this will be the top of the range model, a recent rumour uncovered by AutoCar reveals that the soon to be revealed Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe may receive an AMG E50 badge as opposed to the 43 badges that have been circulating throughout the manufacturer’s lineup.
The reasoning behind this is to celebrate the 50 year anniversary of the Affalterbach factory and to help introduce the new turbocharged straight-six engine, as this will be one of the first models to possess it. With this unit, the E50 is said to deliver 300 kW to all four wheels through the 4MATIC system.
Standard derivatives of the E-Class Coupe will include the E200, E300 and E400 as well as the E220d and E350d for diesel fans. Although not mentioned, an E63 Coupe should be a given. All models except the E200 will make do with the 9G-Tronic transmission.
Other information of the E-Class Coupe includes a new infotainment control system, 40:20:40 rear folding seats. This model will also be the direct basis for the destined E-Class Cabriolet.
Expect to see the official reveal of the E-Class Coupe at the Geneva Motor Show in March next year.
