Porsche has reiterated that the 911 moniker will live on in the face of a fast-changing automotive landscape. How long before the 911 becomes fully electric, though? Porsche CEO, Oliver Blume, confirms at least 10 years…
Speaking to Autocar, Blume stated that a petrol-powered engine will be used in the 911 for as long as the brand is able to. In the meantime, Porsche will focus on efficiency and within the next 10 years look at the possibility of synthetic gasoline.
“We are now in a very early period to do that, it’s still very expensive, but thinking 10 years ahead, it will be an option. For the 911, it fits perfectly,” Blume assures.
“We have a very clear strategy for next 10 to 15 years… We will continue with our petrol engines and we will continue with our very successful hybrid offerings. We are always thinking about how to engineer a performance hybrid and that achievement is, I think, the reason behind the success of the hybrid Panamera and now Cayenne.”
Porsche predicts that by 2025, 60% of its sales will be electrified models. Based off this, Blume states that there is a lot of potential for EVs in the second half of this decade.
