A fresh report out of Europe claims Peugeot is open to a merger with or acquisition of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.

The news comes after the PSA Group acquired Opel in 2017.

According to Automotive News Europe, Robert Peugeot, who heads up the Peugeot family holding company FFP, told French newspaper Les Echos he would not stand in the way of PSA Group CEO Carlos Tavares should the latter seek a deal with the likes of FCA.

“We supported the Opel project from the start. If another opportunity comes up, we will not be braking – Carlos knows that,” Robert Peugeot told the French daily.

“With them , as with others, the planets could be aligned,” he added.

“The Opel operation is an exceptional success; we didn’t think that the recovery could be as fast,” Robert Peugeot said

The report furthermore speculated PSA was considering attempting to acquire Jaguar Land Rover from Tata Motors.

Interestingly, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles CEO Mike Manley told Automotive News Europe at the recent Geneva International Motor Show the automaker would consider “any deal that would make Fiat stronger”.
