Suzuki South Africa breaks its monthly sales record … once again!

Suzuki Auto South Africa says it hit a new monthly sales record in January 2020, registering 1 632 vehicles across the country.

That’s three units up its previous record (achieved in October 2019) and represents a whopping 61,4 percent year-on-year increase.

André Venter, divisional manager for sales and marketing for Suzuki Auto SA, said the firm’s dealer sales (accounting for 1 222 of the 1 632 units in January) had grown by 58,7 percent, year on year.

He added many dealers were reporting a “healthy sales pipeline” and “pent-up demand”, with orders already in place “for February and beyond”.

“Our demand for models such as the Swift, Jimny and Ertiga has never been stronger, and we are working hard to get models to our dealers on time. With new models on the horizon, such as the upcoming affordable S-Presso, we believe that our sales will continue to grow,” he added.

As we’ve already reported, the Swift placed sixth on our monthly list of South Africa’s best-selling passenger vehicles, with 824 units registered. The Jimny was next for the brand with 189 units, while the Ertiga (159), Ignis (116) and Vitara (106) each also hit three figures.

The Celerio added 77 units, the Baleno some 67 units and the DZire 28, while the Ciaz and Grand Vitara had to settle for figures of 25 and five, respectively. The brand also sold 33 examples of its light-commercial Super Carry in January 2020.
