The Jaguar F-Pace has been named as the 2017 World Car of the Year, beating fellow finalists the Volkswagen Tiguan and Audi Q5 to the coveted title.
The announcement was made at the New York International Auto Show, with the F-Pace receiving the title from 2016 winner, the Mazda MX-5.
A jury of 75 international automotive journalists from 23 countries selected the finalists by secret ballot, before picking an overall car of the year as well as winners across five other categories.
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class took home the 2017 World Luxury Car title, edging out the BMW 5 Series and Volvo S90/V90 twins. The World Performance Car gong went to the Porsche Boxster Cayman (over the Audi R8 Spyder and McLaren 570S), while the Jaguar F-Pace also snatched the World Car Design of the Year trophy, besting fellow finalists the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Cabriolet and Toyota C-HR.
The World Green Car title went to the Toyota Prius Prime (over the Chevrolet Bolt and Tesla Model X), while the BMW i3 (in 94 Ah guise) triumphed in the World Urban Car category, beating the Citroën C3 and Suzuki Ignis to the honour.
“Jaguar has done the unthinkable by first securing the World Car Design of the Year award, then lifting the big one – the overall World Car of the Year trophy,” said Mike Rutherford, juror, director and vice-chairman of the World Car Awards.
“With F-Pace, the British company and its proud and talented workers have taken on and beaten far bigger, wealthier European, Asian and North American rivals,” added Rutherford.
